NEILY (MUMFORD), JANE FRANCES – 1943 – 2022 died peacefully at St. Teresa Place, in Calgary, Alberta, on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, surrounded by her loving family and entered into the presence of her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Special thanks to Dr. Vanessa Miller and the compassionate staff at St. Teresa Place.
Born in Middleton, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Clifford Earle Mumford and Frances Evangeline Mumford (Marshall). Jane received her education from Macdonald School and graduated from Middleton Regional High School in 1962. Upon graduation, she entered into the Victoria General Hospital School of Nursing in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Graduating in 1965 as a Registered Nurse, she began nursing in the Highland View Hospital in Amherst, Nova Scotia.
In 1966, Jane married her high school sweetheart, George Neily and they welcomed Jeff in 1971. Their family was complete with the arrival of Peter in 1973. It was in 1984 that Jane supported George as he sensed God’s call to prepare for the Christian Ministry and the family moved to Wolfville, Nova Scotia. Jane returned to nursing at this time to support the family as George completed his Master of Divinity from Acadia Divinity College. After graduation, the family moved to Jordan Falls to begin their ministry at Jordan Falls Baptist Church. In 1992, the family moved to the Annapolis Valley where they served in the Bridgetown-Centrelea, and West Dalhousie Baptist Churches for 16 years.
Jane will be remembered for her leadership in Sunday school, Junior Church, Vacation Bible School, and Women’s Bible Study Groups. However, it is the warmth of her kitchen that brought comfort and fellowship to so many over the years with her delicious cooking and baking. The longing to be close to the grandchildren Evan (2006), Micah (2008) and Benjamin (2009), drew Jane and and George west where they began a new life in High River, Alberta in 2008. As members of High River Baptist Church, they taught 4’s and 5’s Sunday School and were part of a small group. As well, they helped coordinate the Senior’s Ministry (Old Friends Luncheons). Jane remained an active volunteer at the High River Hospital sharing her love of playing hymns at the chapel and providing spiritual care to the residents.
She is survived by her husband, George, sons Jeff (Hayley Dalgleish-Neily) and Peter (Jennifer Edmondson-Neily), grandchildren Evan, Micah and Ben, her brother and sister in-law Clifford and Cathy Mahaney Mumford of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her father Earle, mother Frances and infant daughter, Lisa Jane. Jane will be remembered for her love of life and faithful service. She was compassionate and hard working at what ever she did. She loved her family, friends, walking, swimming, playing piano, cooking and baking.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at the High River Baptist Church on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow. Her desire in life was to hear her Lord say, “Well done good and faithful Servant.” Donations may be made to the High River Baptist Church or the Alzheimer’s Society of Calgary. “To God be the Glory”.
