James Roland Snyder Monday December 26th 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of James Roland Snyder, 66, of New Canada announces his passing on Monday, December 26, 2022, at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. James is survived by his wife, Cynthia; sons, Matthew (Erin) Chilliwack, British Columbia, and Andrew (Ellen Taggart), Dartmouth; brother, Jerry (Debbie) and nephew, Joel, Lower Sackville.
James was the son of the late Roland and Freda (Lohnes) Snyder and was predeceased by his sister, Joanne. He grew up in Upper Northfield, Nova Scotia and attended school in New Germany. James completed his undergraduate degree in Business Administration at Acadia University. He spent most of his career as an accountant with the South Shore District and Tri-County School Boards – a career he truly loved.
James’s family was the center of his life. He dedicated his life to guiding, providing for, and ensuring his values of family, honesty, and respect shone through. He made sure that family traditions centered around being together and ensured that his family were happy and well cared for including his aunts, uncles, and extended family. He was a rock for his family during many years of illness, and continued to ensure that he communicated, supported, and comforted those closest to him.
James was passionate about travelling, helping others, and spending time with family and friends. James loved to explore and create new memories with Cynthia, his sons, and many friends. He loved meeting new people and learning about their lives. He served as a board member for several organizations throughout his life. Most recently, he was one of the founding members and the treasurer of the South Shore Hospice Palliative Care Society. James found great joy carrying out his duties for the Hospice Society and it was one of his true passions leading up to his passing.
There are many things that James Snyder will be remembered for. His beautiful smile, unique laugh, ability to talk to anyone, and witty sense of humor. He is remembered as a friend who cared deeply for those he loved, who showed up when it mattered most, and he did so consistently. Before his passing, a minister who was visiting asked him if he had any regrets or worries in this life, to which he responded, “I have none.” He lived his life to the fullest and his positive impact on the world is what will remain engraved in the memories of the people who loved him dearly.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Heather Robertson, Dr. Tony Nestel and the wonderful staff on the Medical/Surgical Unit for the excellent care James received at the South Shore Regional Hospital.
Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg. A memorial service to celebrate James’s life will be held Saturday, January 07, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Central United Church, Lunenburg, Rev. Daniel MacDonald, officiating. Family interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, New Canada.
The family asks that masks be worn during the service and reception.
