James Jimmy

James Jimmy Brown 1931 2022

James Herman “Jimmy” Brown
December 1, 1931 – October 3, 2022
Jimmy Brown was quick to smile. He and his friends held court from a bench on Elgin Street, in Arnprior. They chatted and “hallo”ed everyone who walked by. Even in his eighties he found a way to bring spirit to his community.
Jimmy joined the Navy as a young seaman with Ray Howson and they remained friends for life. He then joined the Army and served in the Black Watch. He was a lifelong and proud member of the Canadian Legion and the Masonic Lodge.
When he returned to Arnprior he worked for Boeing Canada and quickly became “that guy”. Later he and Beulah founded Arnprior Video. It was a place where parents could choose their next movie while their kids played in the playbox Jimmy built for them.
Jimmy loved kids: he was a proud and unwaveringly supportive dad and a beloved “poppy to his grandkids.
Jimmy and Beulah (nee Cleveland) were married for 69 years. He loved his girls: Donna Church (Michael Egan) of Ottawa, Judy Martin (David) of Arnprior and Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Kearney (Colin) of Arnprior. He was cherished as Poppy for Kevin Church (Kate Baker) and Evelyn and Grayson, Jake Kearney (Sigrid), Michael Martin, Jorna and Jace and Paige Wood (Brendan).
He was dear brother of Donna Slater of Arnprior and Wendy Bahm (Kevin) of Alberta. Predeceased by brother Doug Brown (late Helen) and sister Elizabeth Ann Halliday (Stuart). Jimmy was a most favorite uncle to many nieces and nephews.
His parents, the late Donald and Theo (nee Martyn) Brown helped found the Arnprior Hospital. It was fitting he died there under the kind care of Doctor Kurian, the marvelous nurses, and, surrounded by three generations of women who loved him.
In memory of Jimmy, a donation may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Jimmy’s Arrangements have been entrusted to the Boyce Funeral Home Ltd., 138 Daniel Street North, Arnprior.
