Obituary of James “Jim” Charles Cavill
James “Jim” Cavill passed away peacefully on September 13 at Parkwood Mennonite Home, at
the age of 82, surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Jim was born on August 10, 1940 in New Castle, PA. A star athlete and student in high school,
Jim attended American University where he was a national debater, president of his fraternity
and a member of the first class to graduate from the prestigious School of International Service.
Jim was also active in the civil rights movement in the Washington DC area.
Although accepted to Duke Law, he chose instead to enter the business world with Exxon Corp,
where he worked his way up to management, eventually joining Breslube Enterprises in
Breslau, Ontario as Vice President in 1981. During this time, Jim was also on the board of the
Waterloo Symphony. Breslube was acquired by Safety-Kleen Corp in 1988, where Jim worked
until he retired in 2000. He returned to college, earning his MA in Religion and Culture from
Wilfrid Laurier University and an addiction studies certificate from McMaster.
Jim was a friend of Bill W. for over 40 years, offering loving and compassionate support to many
people along the way. He was always interested in news, politics, culture, sports, a good
mystery novel and the latest James Bond movie. He was a man of faith, and he loved nothing
more than grandpa fishing in Muskoka, spending time in his garden, his book club, walking his
precious dog Max and was known for his unwavering love and generosity.
Jim was preceded in death by his mother Evelyn Comstock, his stepfather Bill Comstock and
his beloved son Sean Cavill. He is survived by his wife Judy, and his 7 children and stepchildren
(Leslie (Matt), Sam (Kim), Sarah (Adam), Chad (Eleanor), Laura and Amy and 13
grandchildren (Meg, Colleen, Kaitlyn, Zoe, Aidan, Mimi, Violet, Jo, Charlotte, Ben, Kyla, Avery and
Ryen).
A Celebration of Life for Jim is planned for Saturday, September 24 the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St S,
Waterloo fFollowed by a light luncheon. All are invited to attend. A Livestream of the service will be held at www.erbgood.com
