MASON, James Patrick age 92 of
Isaac’s Harbour, Guysborough County, passed away Sunday,
April 17, 2022 in High-Crest Sherbrooke Home for Special
Care. He was a son of the late Uriah Firth and Hallie Evelyn
(Crooks) Mason. James “Jim” was a sailor on the
Great Lakes for forty-four years. He enjoyed playing and listening to
music, especially Hank Snow, his lifelong musical hero, and anything
Bluegrass. Jim also enjoyed the music of his niece, Terri Mason
MacDonald, as well as the music of Lisa Hallett and Alanna
Hayne. He enjoyed spending time in Isaac’s Harbour
and Goldboro fishing off the wharf, walking ‘round the
harbour, berry picking with his friend and neighbour, Delores Walsh,
and checking out the progress of the Sable Project with his buddy,
Aubrey Hallett. Jim spent many a day in the shed with his
buddy, Stan Kaiser, watching and helping with Stan’s
woodworking projects. It was there, both became amateur
philosophers solving world problems, as fast as Stan could whittle,
and one of the many reasons why they became lovingly referred to by
family as, ‘Fred and Barney (Jim)’. He enjoyed the
company of so many including Ernie MacMillan, who shared a passion for
Bluegrass music. There is no doubt he is steering a Lake
boat through the Welland Canal once again, and spending time with his
family and old friends. He is survived by his wife of 62
years, Mona (Clyburne), High-Crest Sherbrooke Home for Special Care;
daughter, Donna Brown (Mike), Meridian, Mississippi; son, Dana (Cathy)
James River; grandson, Michael Brown, Meridian, Mississippi;
granddaughter, Jenna Mason, James River; sister-in-law, Marion Mason,
Antigonish. He was predeceased by sister, Kay (Neil) Mason; brothers,
Granville, Havelock, and Vernon (Maxine). A Celebration
of Life Service will be held Saturday, August 20th at 11:00 am in
Goldboro Interpretive Centre with Lewis MacIntosh
officiating. Many thanks to the kind and compassionate
care he received during the past five and a half years in High-Crest
Sherbrooke Home for Special Care. Family flowers only please. Memorial
donations may be made to the Isaac’s Harbour Cemetery
Fund. Funeral arrangements are under the dignified and
compassionate care of G. W. Giffin Funeral Home Ltd., 17545 Highway
316, Country, Harbour.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of James Jim Patrick Mason 1930 2022..
