Obituary
JAMES (JIM) GARNET FREEMAN
On December 16, surrounded by his family, Jim broke the five-year curse that Lewy Body Disease inflicted upon him.
He was born February 6, 1947, to Raymond and Ethel Freeman as the second oldest of nine children, Ethel-Rae, Cheryl, Percy, Patty, Corliss, Holly, Coral and Ramie. Their home was the original “Full House” that included bachelor Uncle Chuck. While growing up he accompanied his friend, Eddy Dear, on trips to Hecla Island. Many of his stories would start “One time at Hecla, after the last ferry left…..”.
On May 6, 1967 he married Carolyn Fey and added her 6 brothers and 6 sisters, Eugene, Audrey, Allen, Wanetta, Lloyd, Ken, Glenn, Beverly, Loraine, Howard, Meryl and Diane to his family. The first child, Denise, arrived on August 2, 1967, and the nuclear family was complete when Keith was born on January 2, 1971.
Camping was always part of the family activities. Fishing at Big Rock, a tour of Manitoba’s North and a National Lampoon style trip to the West Coast complete with car break downs, back seat fights and family fluctuance from eating too many fresh cherries. As a return to Jim’s roots, the family went camping to Hecla Island and this turned into a weekly summer destination for many years.
Denise married Wade, Keith married Patty and then the granddaughters came. They were the apple of his eye, and he had a special name for each. Sidney was his “Sweetie Pie”, Paige was his “Honey Bunny”, and Camryn was his “Princess”.
Jim and Carol were inseparable through the 55 years they were married. They loved to travel and had many adventures in their tips to Barbados, Mexico, Florida, Texas and a 50th anniversary river cruise through Europe. Their love was constant and there is no greater measure of a man than when your wife tells you in your final hours what a great partner, husband, father, and grandfather you have been.
If you have a moment, pour yourself a shot of Scotch and raise a glass to Dad, Grandpa, Mr. Wonderful or just Jim and his life well lived.
A private family ceremony will be held at a later date.
