On March 31st, 2022, with family by his side, James Gostick, at the age of 66, passed peacefully at Southampton Hospital. James, also known as Jay, Goose, Dad, and his favourite name Poppa, fought a tough battle against cancer with courage, humility and strength. Jay was the beloved husband of Beth and proud father of Janine (Cedric) Grin of Shelburne and Steven (Jaclyn) Gostick of Port Elgin. He was loving Poppa to Graydon, Landry, Myla and Boden. Brother of Anne (late Mike) Hurd, Jean (Joe) Wood, Bill (Barb) Gostick, Liz Levesque and late Tom (Wendy) Gostick. Brother-in-law of Ted (Fran) Acheson, Ken (late Norah Peters) Acheson and Joyce (Blain) Clarke. He will be missed dearly by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Jay loved to hunt and fish with his buddies, especially the June perch fishing gang. He enjoyed golfing, playing hockey and being outdoors. Jay loved Manitoulin Island as his second home where he cherished visits from family and taught grandkids how to catch the big one. He believed that there are no bad days when you are at the lake. Jay worked at the Bruce Heavy Water Plant and retired from Bruce Power in 2008.
He taught us that family is everything and to always stay humble and kind. He inspired us to have moments that matter.
A Celebration of Life will take place on April 9th, 2022 at Lakeshore Recreation Centre in Port Elgin from 1 – 4 p.m. Tribute and toast at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the fundraising initiative for the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Services’ CT Scanner. (bringtomtotown.com/donate/)
