Today we celebrate the life of James Fredrick Loughlin. Beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. This is a tribute to the most wonderful man. He loved his wife dearly and was never far from her side. He always had to be close enough to reach out and hold her hand. Their love was very rare and something many people wish to find. They were truly partners in every aspect. He loved the outdoors and spent much of his time hunting and fishing. His favourite place in the world was the Grand Lake Narrows. He built a cabin on the Grand Lake, bringing in supplies by boat to Deep Cove as there were no roads there at the time. As he brought family and friends out to enjoy the fishing, soon others began building cabins there, and today it is a well populated area with many cabin owners. He was the last man left of the original “cabin crew”, and now they are all together again laughing and fishing once more. He was an accomplished writer who submitted hundreds of stories to the Humber Log and Spawner magazine, and self published a book of short stories titled “75 years fishing”. His nostalgic stories remind us of a simpler time and the beauty of the outdoors. Jim Loughlin was a kind hearted soul who always believed in looking out for his fellow man. He was one of the presidents of local 64 at Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Mill and fought tirelessly for the best interests of his fellow workers. He was quite popular among the workers and worked hard to make life better at the mill. He leaves behind so many who loved him dearly; everyone who met him was a friend. He loved his family and was always there for everyone, even if it was just to sit beside you and hold your hand. You knew you were never alone because he was with you.
Many of us grieve for you today. They say grief is the price of love and the greater the love, the bigger the grief. There is immeasurable grief today because your love was larger than life.
“Forever in our hearts”
