Obituary of James D. “Jim” Johnston
Of St. Thomas, passed away at the Valleyview Home on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, in his 91st year. Beloved husband and best friend for over 64 years to Jeanne (née Luneman) Johnston. Loving father of Richard Johnston, Wendy Lewis (Kevin), and Jason Johnston, all of St. Thomas. Cherished grandfather of Mathew Johnston of Fredericton, NB. Born in Simcoe, ON, June 16, 1931, he was the son of the late Norman and Jessie (née Lowe) Johnston. A retired supervisor with Clark Equipment, St. Thomas, Jim also worked at Ford Motor Company of Canada’s St. Thomas Assembly Plant. He was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, St. Thomas. Jim was also a member of St. Thomas Talbot Lodge #44, A.F. & A.M., St. Thomas, a Past President of the Hi-Ro Shrine Club, St. Thomas, having also been a Past President of the Clown Unit, a member of Mocha Temple, London and Clan 59, Hillbilly Unit.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A private memorial service for the immediate family will be held at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160). Due to Provincial COVID-19 restrictions, a properly worn mask is required, physical distancing will be followed, and attendance numbers will be limited. If so desired, memorial donations to the Shriners Hospitals for Children or Knox Presbyterian Church will be appreciated.
