James Cameron, late of Ryerson/Fairlight, passed away at the Redvers Long Term
Care facility April 2, 2022 at the age of 95. Predeceased by parents Roy and Annie
Clark; brothers Howard and Harvey, sister Marion (Cliff Betteridge) and son Ryan.
James is survived by daughter Shelley (Bob) Wellar; son Steven (Jo-Anne); Daughter-
In-Law Roberta Clark (Beaumont); grandchildren Cherie Clark, Rena Clark (Rick
Simigan) Rebecca (Robert) Johnson, Tammy Clark and Michael Clark (Ashley); great
grandchildren Lakeisha and Nathan Salateski, Mia and Abbey Fahey, Meika and Carter
Clark, Ryley, Reid, Rhett and Rory Johnson, James Simigan; great great grandchildren
Keegan Salateski and Logan Dickinson, as well as nieces, nephews and many friends.
Jim was a popular fellow while training for the military during World War II as he was a
good ball player. He was an excellent shot with a rifle and was asked to train as a
sniper but turned that down.
Jim and Verna were both born in the Ryerson/Fairlight/Maryfield district; were married
November 20, 1947; then working side by side they raised their family, built their farm,
and participated and contributed much to the viability of their community.
Jim enjoyed mixed farming and hardly a day went by that he couldn’t be seen walking
though the fields and pastures. His children helped on the farm and worked along
beside him completing necessary jobs. He never wore a watch but if you asked him the
time of day he would look up at the sky and tell you with uncanny accuracy. When his
son took over the farm Jim managed a government experimental pasture project near
Fairlight.
Jim was an excellent large game and upland bird hunter. During those earlier days, as
with many families, wild meat was a much valued addition to the groceries and enjoyed
at the dinner table.
Fishing and trapping were also favourite activities. Many of his fur pelts took top sales
at the Winnipeg Fur Market.
Many thanks to the Redvers Long Term Care staff, community, family and friends for
your continuous support, and wonderful visits.
