Obituary
James ‘Jim’ Albert Heggie, 83, of Raymond, Alberta, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2022.
Jim was the son of Albert and Marguerite Court Heggie of Raymond. During high school Jim excelled at playing basketball for the Raymond Comets and later played for the Raymond Union Jacks. In 1959 he married his sweetheart, LaBeana Bossert, a Magrath Zeniths cheerleader. Jim and LaBeana were married for 63 years.
After a brief career working for Ellison Mills in Lethbridge, Jim and LaBeana moved their young family to Idaho and then Cedar City, Utah where Jim completed his university studies. In 1971 Jim graduated top of his class at Southern Utah University. The University awarded Jim the Pestalozzi Medallion in recognition of his academic achievements and both he and LaBeana were asked to speak at graduation.
Following graduation, Jim taught elementary school in Cedar City, Utah and ran a landscaping business. A few years later he returned to Raymond where he excelled as a Grade 4 teacher in the Raymond schools. Students fortunate enough to be in his class will remember his hunting stories and may still wonder if they were true or not. They will remember him reading books such as ‘Where the Red Fern Grows’ and ‘Summer of the Monkeys’ along with square dancing lessons and numerous art projects. Prior to his retirement, Jim spent several years teaching at the O.K. Hutterite Colony south of Raymond. He loved his students and the people of the O.K. Colony.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Carole Passey (Glen) of Magrath, and his oldest son James Cameron Heggie. He is survived by his wife, his son Thomas (Jean) of Lethbridge, his daughter Lori of Raymond, his son Travis of Bowling Green, Ohio, his son Blaine (Wen-Zhen Chang) of the Republic of China (Taiwan), and his brother Don (Roslyn) of Raymond. Jim and LaBeana have 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
