James A. Lamb
December 23, 1929 – May 21, 2022
With overwhelming sadness, we announce the death of James A. Lamb, cherished father, father-in-law and much loved Poppy and “Big Poppy” to his precious great grandchildren.
While our collective hearts are heavy and broken, we are filled with gratitude for Dad’s long and rich life. We find comfort in knowing that he and Mom (Frances nee Myrick deceased 2015) are now reunited.
Dad’s world revolved around the family he and Mom created. His seven children and his precious girl Courtney.
Mourning his loss are his children Jackie Smith (Randy), Gerard (Frances), Denise Bannister (Keith), Geralyn (Gary Bradshaw dec 2019), Carolyn Lono (Andrew), Jimmy (Chelsea), Leslie O’Neill (John) and Courtney Barrington (Gerard).
Dad was a proud Poppy to all of his 14 grandchildren. His nightly phone calls to many of them may have slowed down in the past few years and his attendance at all of their sporting events, concerts and recitals was not always possible as he got older, but he loved each of them with all of his heart and he took pleasure in any and all of their accomplishments big or small. Allison and Colin Smith, Jimmy and Jennifer Lambe, Jamie and Matthew Bannister, Courtney Barrington, Stefan Lono, Jesse, Reese and Ava Lambe, Kiley, Claire and Katie O’Neill.
Last but certainly not least in Dad’s eyes were all of his treasured Great Grandchildren. Gavin and Gweneth Barrington, Emily and Megan Ducey, Felix, Ruby and Sonny Lambe and baby Bannister on the way.
Dad was the 6th of 8 children born in Brigus on December 23, 1929. When anyone asked Dad when his Birthday was, he proudly responded “Tibbs Eve.” Every year Dad’s birthday gathering signified the beginning of the Christmas season. A party that he so enjoyed celebrating with his family and friends. Dad had a long career as a Radio Operator with the Canadian Coastguard retiring at the age of 57. Following his retirement Dad did brief stints on the Franklyn and even worked on a cruise ship as a Radio Officer for 3 months in the Caribbean with Norwegian Cruise Lines! Dad was a good athlete back in his day having been the goalie for the Brigus Bruins. He told us that his mother could never go to watch him play she would stay home and say the rosary until he and his brother made it home from the games. Retirement also brought many rounds of golf a game he loved to play with his much loved Brother in Law, Cyril Myrick.
Dad was a loving and devoted husband, a father whose love was unconditional and a true and loyal friend. He was a gentle man and a gentleman. He epitomized the word kindness.
As a family the unwavering friendship shown to Dad has not gone unnoticed. To all of Dad’s close friends, your phone calls and especially your visits to Dad over the past few years meant more than you know.
There are simply no words to describe how much you are loved and how much you will be missed but we know the very best of you lives on in all of us.
Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation on Wednesday from 12 noon – 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, May 26, 2022, at 10 a.m. from Mary Queen of Peace Church. Cremation to follow.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of James A Lamb 2022..
