JOHNSON, John A.
Caribou River
JOHNSON, John ‘Jack’ Albert – It is with profound sadness the family of Jack Johnson, age 78, of Caribou River, announces his passing on March 15, 2022 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late John Johnson and Evelyn (MacNamara) Johnson MacNeil. Jack was predeceased by his loving wife, Joan Johnson; his parents; and his brother, Malcolm MacNeil. Jack is survived by his children, Marjorie (Chris) O’Laney, Donnie (Ann) Muise, Daryl (Candy) Muise, Cherilyn (Karl Sutton) Johnson; grandchildren, Kerri (Chris) MacAulay, Jason (Patrice) O’Laney, Tyler Francis-Muise, Danielle Gallant; great grandchildren, Dawson, Josie, Lincoln, Finley and S’an Sulian; sister, Karolee Gair; several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. Jack started out his working days with the Canadian National Railroad in Ontario, later moving back to Nova Scotia where he would work for various ship yards and the United Steel Workers. However, it was the calling of the ocean that was Jack’s true passion. Until his retirement in 2008, Jack was the proud captain of the ALBIE -N- I; where not only did he make his living but spent many evenings with family and friends having a sip, telling a tale and sailing along the shores of the Northumberland Strait. In his earlier years, Jack could be found with the catch of his life, Joan, often enjoying going out for supper on Friday nights, travelling the world, going to bluegrass festivals and playing cards with friends. Some of Jack’s best days though were spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were the joy of his life. Nothing made him happier that watching them grow (except for maybe tormenting them a little here and there). Per Jack’s request, there will be no visitation, cremation has taken place. A public graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM Monday, March 21st in the Riverbank Cemetery, Toney Mills. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Jack’s memory to the Northumberland Fisheries Museum, or a charity of your choice. www.mclarenfuneral.ca
