Obituary for
J. Melanie MacLeod
MacLeod, J. Melanie – Bible Hill. It is with deep sadness and a broken heart that I announce the passing of my dear wife and best friend of almost 30 years, J. Melanie MacLeod, RN on March 12, 2022 in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. She was born on March 17, 1956 in Huntingdon, Quebec, the only child of the late J. Mervin and Thelma (Frier) Paul.
Melanie is survived by her loving husband, Brian MacLeod. Dearly loved and missed by her father and mother-in-law, the Rev. Clair and Enid MacLeod and brothers and sisters-in-law, Kevin (Pam) of Salmon River, Kent (Karen) of Bible Hill, Rev. Kirk (Rev. Allyson) of Sutton, ON. She is fondly remembered by uncles, aunts and cousins. Melanie was adored by nieces and nephews and many grand nieces and nephews.
Cousins were like sisters and brothers to Melanie, who was known as “Google”. Unconditional love was demonstrated by Kathy (Andrew), traveling from Florida. Her close friend, Nancy showed love with a visit prior to her hospitalization. Heartwarming support and encouragement came from her dear cousins as well as from her close nursing friends, known as The Posse. All commented on the extraordinary character of Melanie. She had a deep faith in Christ. She has begun a new life in heaven with no pain or suffering.
Melanie was one of a kind and a compassionate nurse for 45 years. She nursed her patients’ physical and emotional needs with incredible love and care, even nursing others while she was not well; a real testament to how strong she was.
She loved hosting friends and family in our home. She was so creative in crocheting outfits and blankets for babies all over this area. She talked about sacrificing and moving locations for someone you love. She did that for me by moving from Montreal to Truro. Melanie loved plants, nursing parties, baby foals, baking and most importantly, investing in peoples’ lives.
Special thanks to Dr. Phillips and Dr. Rowe for caring for Melanie and special thanks to Shannon Toole for always being there for me. Thank you to the Doctors and to the VG and Truro nursing staff for valiant efforts to help my sweet Melanie.
Donations in Melanie’s memory may be made to St. James Presbyterian Church or the Canadian Cancer Society.
A funeral service will take place on Saturday, March 26th at 2pm in St. James Presbyterian Church, Truro with Rev. Kirk MacLeod and Rev. Andrew Campbell officiating. Send email to st.jamestruro@gmail.com to obtain link for livestreaming of service. Reception to follow in the Lower Hall. Family flowers only. Interment will be held in Geddie Memorial Cemetery, Springbrook, PEI as well as in Huntingdon, QC at a later date.
