J Hugh Graham Tuesday June 14th 2022

J. Hugh Graham – (1927-2022)
Dad passed away suddenly at Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay, Ontario on June 14th. He is deeply missed by his partner Barbara Suter, daughter Susan Graham-Clay, son-in-law Bob Clay, daughter Martha Graham, son-in-law Derek Morphy, grandson Michael Clay (Shannon Clay), granddaughters Rachel Clay and Devan Graham (Jason Swack), and great-grandchildren Jacob and Ava Clay. Also dearly missed by his sister Catherine and brother-in-law John Goddard and his sister-in-law Donna Graham (predeceased by brother Wally). Lovingly remembered by his niece Dale Graham and nephews Graham, Richard and David Goddard and their families, and by the Suter family including Brian (Jay), Terry (Marilee), Frances, Danielle, Ben and family. Dad was born and raised in Peterborough, Ontario. In his youth he participated in wrestling, cadets and played clarinet and piano in local bands. He loved the family farm near Fenelon Falls in the summers. After receiving his Commerce degree from the University of Toronto, he married his high school sweetheart Nancy Stanton in 1952. In 1960 Dad moved his young family from Ontario to Winnipeg as manager of Retail Credit Company and later held a managerial role with the Royal Bank of Canada. Mom and Dad loved living and raising their daughters in River Heights, where he lived almost 40 years. Dad was also very involved in the Toastmasters organization and was a gifted speaker. Several years after Mom passed in 1990, Dad was fortunate to meet Barb Suter from Bobcaygeon, Ontario. He and Barb were partners for 25+ years and lived in a lovely rural setting outside oftown. He was an active and well-respected member of the community. Dad loved curling, golf, bridge, handyman jobs, musical evenings, theatre, summers in the Kawarthas (especially annual Graham reunions), practical jokes, all things financial, reading, crosswords and sudoku. Once back in Ontario, Dad and Barb especially enjoyed many happy times with Wally, Donna, Kitter and John. Dad was well known for his masterful “doggerel” poems presented at family occasions. Dad was a wonderfully kind, friendly, generous, supportive man who was always willing to lend a hand and give much sought after advice. He was immensely proud of his family and will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Dad’s life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by his family.
