Ivan grew up in Campbelleton, Notre Dame Day with his parents and siblings. At the age of 17 he moved to Howley. Ivan met his wife, Linda and it was love at first sight. His love and devotement to his wife was unwavering. He always knew he was in the best of hands with her by his side, facing both the simplest of tasks and the big decisions of life. Together they started a foundation and built an empire of unconditional love and mutual respect for their family.
Ivan went on to Teachers College. He taught for one year at the Salvation Army School in Deer Lake before moving on to other endeavours. He would go on to make a career with CN Rail as a Train Dispatcher from which he retired from in 1999. This career move led him to make a successful life for himself and his family in several provinces, where he made many life long friends.
His early retirement enabled him to pursue his love of carpentry where his fine skills were in high demand. His measurement skills were impeccable as he took great pride in measuring his four grandchildren on a yearly basis since birth. He was fortunate to see them grow and flourish in many aspects of their lives.
Ivan raised his girls to be strong, independent and fierce in their own right, and instilled in them a deep foundation of morals and respect. He was their greatest supporter in all they chose to do even if it meant they would fail from time to time. He instilled his love of animals in each of his children and grandchildren always allowing them to bring home their pets of mice, fish, hamsters, cats, dogs, etc. Puss Puss will miss him terribly.
High Fight
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth. And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds, and done a hundred things you have not yet dreamed of – wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence; Hov’ring there, I’ve chased the shouting wind along and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air; Up, up the long delirious burning blue I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace, where never lark, or even eagle flew; And, while with silent, lifting mind I’ve trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of God.
