Delena Isobel Woodhouse passed away peacefully at her home in Raglan Village, Collingwood, Ontario, on January 15, 2022. She was in her 91st year.
Is, as she was known to her many friends, was born on July 11, 1931 on her parent’s farm in Tehkummah Township on the Manitoulin Island. At the height of the Great Depression, they sold the farm and moved into Little Current and in 1941 as World War Two raged, at the age of 10, the family moved to Parry Sound, where her father obtained a job at DIL in Nobel. Isobel attended high school in Parry Sound, where she met the love of her life, Bert Woodhouse. Her very first job was as a waitress at the Belvedere Hotel. After graduating from high school, she worked at the Land Titles Office and married Bert on June 30 – the last day of school – 1951, at St. James United Church. Throughout her life, she was very involved in her church and community, volunteering at the Parry Sound General Hospital, Meals on Wheels and the Parry Sound Museum. She loved to entertain and enjoyed a good game of bridge with her friends. Isobel and Bert enjoyed many years of travelling the globe, visiting many European countries, Australia, and Alaska by cruise. She loved Parry Sound and the Georgian Bay, especially walking the fitness trail, where she would stop and chat with friends and enjoy the spectacular view – God’s country – she liked to call it. In 2016, she moved to Collingwood to be closer to family, and quickly became part of the tight-knit community at Raglan Village, where she continued to play bridge.
Isobel is predeceased by her husband, Bert and her parents, John and Delena McCauley. She is survived by her sons Mark (Sue) and Scott (Deb); grandchildren Fiona, Paige (Brooks) and Morgan; Caitlin (Alykhan) and Meggy and her friend Mike. She was proud of her great-grandchildren, Tucker, Brantley and Arlo.
Cremation has taken place.
A Celebration of Isobel’s Life will take place at the Logan Funeral Home (705-746-5855), 81 James Street, Parry Sound on Monday, July 18th, 2022 at 11:30 A.M. Visitation prior to the service from 10:30 – 11:30 A.M. Reception to follow.
