Irene (nee Purcell) Koziol, Moxley
1932 – 2022
It is with sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Irene Moxley at 90 years of age on November 18, 2022.
Irene was born in The Pas, Manitoba and moved to Edmonton in 1947. She attended St. Mary’s High School and graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Edmonton General Hospital in 1954. She nursed in Camrose and Montreal before returning to Edmonton. In 1958, she married Bill Koziol (deceased 1995) and they had six children; Bob (Patricia) of Whitby, ON, Mike, Peter, Maryann, Steve, and Shirley (Robert Bechtel). She leaves eight loving grandchildren; Kevin (Fiona), Adrienne, Sean, Rachelle Biever, Ryan, Andrew and Erin Koziol, and Alyssa Koziol.
After the death of her first husband, she married Bill Moxley in 1997. Bill passed away in 2000. Irene is survived by Bill Moxley’s four children; Todd (Karen), Tim, Tammy (Mark), Trent (Vera); and eight grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Irene was active in fundraising and local politics and was a member of the Board of Governors of Grant McEwen University.
She was predeceased by her parents Ed and Maisie Purcell; sister, M. Joan Gates; and brothers C. Ted and L. Patrick.
A Celebration of her Life and a Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the spring of 2023.
The family would like to thank the compassionate caregivers at St. Michael’s Long Term Care Centre for their dedication to Irene.
