Irene Melnick
April 19, 1929 – February 18, 2022
Irene was the oldest daughter of Jacob and Rose Dyck. They lived on a farm near Eigenheim, SK along with her brother Gordon. After her school years, she went to work at a camp as a cook; that is where she met her dear husband, Edward Melnick. They were married August 14, 1954. Together they had five children: Debbie (John, deceased) Clark, Warren (Sandi), Wendy (Ernie) Hamm, Greg, and Julie (Troy) Zacharias. She had ten beautiful grandchildren and ten wonderful great-grandchildren; each and every one of them were the absolute joy and delight of her life. They raised their family in Waldheim, SK, later moving to Saskatoon and eventually retiring in Waldheim.
Irene spent her life enjoying many things; she had a giving nature. Her baking, which was amazing, was given and shared with many people. She thoroughly enjoyed creating and preparing the children’s shoe boxes for most of her life. She faithfully donated to Christian ministries and was part of the Zoar Mennonite Church in Waldheim for many years.
Mom and dad began camping early in their marriage. Each year brought a new adventure of finding the right trailer. One of their favorite spots to travel was Creston, BC where they would load up with fruit and often mom would would can it right on-site in the camper to take home. It was amazing how much produce they would pack away in the camper to bring home, it was a sight to behold! This was the highlight of their year. They also loved the gospel jamborees every year and the fellowship that they encountered there. Socializing was an important part of their life together; they would often meet friends on a regular basis for lunch, supper, or even just a coffee, this lasted well into their retirement years.
When dad passed away a couple of years ago, it broke her heart and life had changed. She spent her days passing the time with quieter activities and often talked about the day she would be reunited with dad. Mom was a faith-filled woman who practiced what she believed in and ended every day praying for the family and the salvation of others. Mom will be deeply missed, not just by her family but by all that knew her.
A Private Family Service will be held.
