In loving memory – April 7/ 2022
Irene Elfrieda Jacob was born Jan 5, 1930 in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan, the eldest child of parents Martin and Matilda Jacob. The family farmed in southern Saskatchewan before moving to Oliver, BC in 1945.
Mom met and married the love of her life Leslie Godberson and together they raised 4 daughters. After several moves, they settled in Robson in 1969 as Dad worked for BC Hydro at the Keenleyside Dam. Mom became an active member of the Robson’s Women Auxiliary Group and a volunteer at St. David’s thrift store. Her hobbies included walking, reading, nutritional health and gardening. Her favourite flower was red geraniums and she grew them in abundance! She was a self-taught talented seamstress, piano player and baker who made THE BEST cinnamon buns! Mom enjoyed a variety of music genres and often had the music blaring while singing and dancing along.
Mom’s greatest source of pride was her family, and her unconditional love and support was evident to all. Her cheeky personality and deep belly laughs were enjoyed by everyone. Mom’s warm and nurturing nature shone through to all who knew her. She was a humble, grateful and kind person who cared more for other people’s health and well being than her own. Mom was very conscious of people less fortunate and frequently contributed to food drives. Her stoic strength, resiliency and humour helped Mom overcome many obstacles in her life and has been an inspiration to her family.
Our Mom left this world April 7/2022 on her own terms- at home, ready to join her husband and surrounded with love and family support. Though she is dearly missed, we are grateful to have had her love, humour, strength and guidance for many years. We take comfort knowing she is pain free and feel her spirit with us all.
Mom was pre-deceased by her husband Les Godberson and parents Martin and Matilda Jacobs.
She is survived by her daughters Reina (Ted) McAfee, Sharon McEwen (Bruce Hooton), Trudy (Roger) Mogg and Lorna (Mike) Ferguson; grandchildren John Rink, Jerry Rink, Jason McEwen, Ryan McEwen, Kim Fleming, Karen Knutson, Jenessa Morin and Marissa Morin, plus numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; sister Vi Ogston of Chilliwack, brother Elroy Jacobs of Vancouver and many nieces and nephews;
There will be a private graveside service only as requested.
We extend our thanks to Kevin and Megan at Pharmasave for their professional and caring support, Ryanna and team at Home Support; Dr. Anne Cromp who cared for and guided mom and the family through a difficult process and the many neighbours and friends that helped keep Mom safe in her home.
Auf-weidersechen Mama. We love you.
