Barlow, Irene Gertrude ~ We the family are sad to announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great grandmother & great great grandmother at the age of 89 on Friday, September 16, 2022 in Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown. Born in West Paradise, Annapolis County to the late Avery and Leta Baxter, on January 26, 1933, their only daughter. Irene lived her life in Nova Scotia except for one year in Darien, Connecticut, USA. Irene was a member of the Middleton Baptist Church and a current member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 98 Kingston. Irene worked at numerous places in the Valley. She worked at the Lab at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, Middleton for over 20 years. Irene and her loving husband Jack, enjoyed many nights square dancing at local clubs also on a square-dancing trip to Newfoundland with many stops along the way. They also enjoyed camping with friends and members of 1st Apple Valley Good Sam Campers for over 18 years. Irene was treasurer of the group for over 16 years. Irene and Jack were married February 2, 1955 at her parent’s home in Paradise. The happy couple brought up their four daughters in Aylesford and Wilmot. Mom will be missed by all her family and Opal her dog will miss her too. Irene is survived by her daughters, Patricia “Pat” Harrison, Ajax, ON; Paulette (Scott) Hartlen, North Williamston; Susan (David) Davis, Nictaux; Wanda (Michael) Drane, Nictaux; grandchildren Melissa Connell, Chef Michelle Friel, Scott (Candice) Davis, Dr. Nicolle (Cst. Morgan RCMP) Fisher, Cst. Kevin (Cpl. Chelsea both RCMP) Drane, Chris (Shelley) Drane; great grandchildren, Cpl. River Friel (36 Service Battalion), Reece Friel, Rylee Friel, Austin Connell, Brody Connell, Ashton Davis, Lexi Davis, Theo Drane, Makayla Fisher; great great granddaughter Eleanor Kaulbach and numerous nieces and nephews. Irene was predeceased by her parents, husband Jack (of 59 years) and her only brother Raymond and a number of sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. In keeping with Irene’s request, cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held 11:00AM Wednesday, September 21, 2022 in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448 with Rev. Libby Amirault officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow the service. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton, following reception . Donations in Irene’s memory may be made to Diabetes Canada, Heart and Stroke Foundation or charity of choice. Thanks to all who helped in any way to make her days enjoyable during her last years.
