IRENE ARMSTRONG
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Irene Armstrong, age 98, of Barrie ON on September 28, 2020. Irene was a Christmas Baby, born on December 25, 1921 in Ryerson Twp. Burk’s Falls. She was the daughter of the late Andrew and Gertrude (Milsap) Leggate. She was married to Robert Alan Armstrong and lived in Burk’s Falls, until his passing at the early age of 55. Irene made Scarborough her home in the years to follow but always said that Burk’s Falls remained very close to her heart. She had fond memories of their years managing the Bluebird Theatre and raising their children.
Irene was very kind and was dearly loved by all who knew her. Her gift of joy and laughter; her selflessness and caring ways will be remembered always. Her greatest joy in life were her children and her family. She will be sadly missed by her daughter Debbie (Peter) Bailey of Kentville NS, her son Bill (Joanne) Armstrong and her only grandson James Armstrong, all of Mount Albert ON. Irene is survived by her brother-in-law Ted Tibbles as well as many nieces and nephews. Irene is predeceased by her sisters; Norma Hamley and Patricia Tibbles.
A special Thank You to her daughter-in-law Joanne for the love, care and compassion that she has shown over the years.
The family expresses sincere appreciation to the staff at the Scarborough General Hospital, 7th Floor Tower (LTC) and most recently to Mill Creek Care Centre in Barrie.
Cremation has taken place.
A service to celebrate Irene’s life will be conducted on Friday September 23, 2022 commencing at 1:00 pm at the Opatovsky Funeral Home-Dempster Chapel, 210 Ontario Street in Burk’s Falls with Doreen Mason DLM officiating. If desired, donations may be made to a charity of your choice, OR a simple act of kindness in remembrance of Irene would be appreciated by the family.
