Irene Amelia Scrymgeour
December 26, 1930 – August 7, 2022

Scrymgeour, Irene Amelia
Our family is saddened to announce the passing of our Mom, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother on August 7th,2022 at the age of 91 at the Halifax Infirmary. Mom was born in Pugwash on December 26th,1930 to Freeman and Marjorie(Hartling) MacLaughlan. A few years later her family moved to Amherst and this is where she met her future husband when she was 13. The lucky fella was William(Bill) Scrymgeour and they were married in 1950. Their marriage lasted 71 years until Dad’s passing in January 2022.
After graduating from Amherst high school mom worked for MT&T then got married shortly thereafter. Mom was a stay at home mom until she joined the workforce in the mid 60’s. She worked alongside my father for many years in his various businesses. She continued doing the books for his company up until her mid 80’s and it was at this point her memory started to falter. The dementia affected her short term memory but thankfully she never forgot us.
My parents enjoyed camping and went to the trailer every weekend for years. They owned The Plantation Campground for several years. After they sold that, they moved to Beech Brook Campground near Windsor and camped every weekend ending in the summer of 2021.
Mom was a Shriners wife and this entailed travelling all around the Maritimes and New England watching dad drive his mini bike in endless parades. They had a great group of friends from the Philae Temple and had a lot of laughs on these trips.
Mom was also involved with The Order of the Eastern Star back in the 80’s.
Mom was also predeceased by daughters Susan Jones(2016),Jane Scrymgeour-Hiltz(2019) and son in law Ron Jones(2011) and sisters Sonja Titus and Pauline MacLaughlan.
Mom is survived by daughter Krista(Robert) Sidney and sons Jeff and Kevin(LeAnn). She is also survived by 10 grandchildren. Amelia Scrmgeour-Hiltz(Zach),Brad Jones(Ann), NickS rymgeour(Natalie), Taylor Kuske(Dan) Brandon Sidney(Chelsea) Ryan Sidney,LaurenSidney,JillianSidney,Kennedy Scrymgeour, and Nathan Scrymgeour. 6 great grandchildren, brother Jack (Hilda) MacLaughlan and sister in law Jean(Calvin) Myra.
We are going to miss her but take solace knowing that she is now reunited with Dad, Susan, and Jane.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday,August 18th.2:00 p.m. at Oakridge Memorial Gardens, Lower Sackville.
