At the Moncton Hospital, Priscilla Guéganne Doucet, 85, died peacefully on Saturday, August 27, 2022, from a short illness. Daughter of the late Allison Martin and Marguerite (Robichaud) Martin, she was originally from Baie-Sainte-Anne but lived in Shediac for many years.
She will be sadly missed by her husband, Leonard Doucet, married for 52 years; her three sons: Grégoire (Tanya), Jason (Kim) and Jean-Paul (Aime); her brothers: Archie (Pierrette), Fernand (Flora); her sister: Arilda; her beloved grandchildren: Caroline, Mathieu and Katryne, and several friends, sisters-in-law, neighbours, nieces, and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers: Gérald, Walter, Aurèle, René, Donald, Norbert, Allison and Paul-Émile.
Guéganne was known as a multidisciplinary artist. Even at her advanced age, she continued to create her art, which was recognized both in Canada and internationally. She has won numerous awards and recognitions over her lifetime. In 2001, she won the gold Medal at the International Dell’arte Contemporanea Biennale in Italy as well as the silver Medal of Excellence – Arts Sciences Lettres from the Académie française in Paris. In 2006, she received the highest distinction of the Salon international de l’Académie européenne des Arts-France in recognition of her exceptional talent and to mark the culmination of her work. A passionate woman, she was dedicated to many causes that were part of her daily life: art, nature, spirituality. She loved creating art that represented the beauty of Mother Earth.
She spent many years to the service of the Province of New Brunswick where she was president of the Union of Secretaries. She has also served as Chief and member of the board of directors of the New Brunswick Aboriginal Peoples Council (NBAPC).
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
To respect Guéganne’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service.
