Moncton, NB- It is with great sorrow we announce the death of David (Dave) O’Brien Chisholm. Dave died in his sleep the morning of November 23rd, 2022, at ProTem Health Services, his home of the past 2+ years. Dave was born October 13th, 1934, in Antigonish N.S. son of Mona (Joncas) Chisholm and Dr. Alexander N. Chisholm of Port Hawkesbury N.S.
The course of Dave’s life was forever altered by the death of his surgeon father in March of 1937. Following graduation from high school Dave joined the RCAF, learned his trade as an electronic engineering technician and worked in different areas of Canada and Europe. Upon retirement from the RCAF he worked for Transport Canada for several years, as an avionics technician, until final retirement.
Dave was a man of few words with a dry wit and many interests and talents. While in N.S.,he spent many hours fly fishing for trout often in his little red Gates canoe. He even tied his own trout flies for those outings. He had a great love of music, mostly classical but also jazz and Cape Breton fiddle. He taught himself musical theory, learned to read music and play the piano. Later took up the clarinet which remained his instrument of choice. He took up wood turning and spent many hours in his workshop at the lathe. In fact, his basement workshop was where he chose to “hang out” puttering or repairing things or making something out of recycled parts. He never discarded anything which was not repairable, without stripping it of any useful parts. He’d always say those bits and pieces might come in handy some day. He could fix most anything and very much enjoyed a challenge. Physical fitness took up a large amount of Dave’s time. Badminton, tennis, cross country skiing, jogging and weightlifting being his big interests.
Dave is survived by his wife of over 59 years, Catherine (Dysart) Chisholm, their children daughter Alyson Chisholm, son Brian Chisholm (Dr. Nina Speyer-Offenberg) and their children Samuel Chisholm and Alexandra Chisholm, son James Chisholm (Judy Rodrigues) and daughter Laura Chisholm-Stone (Derek Stone) and their children Lewis Stone, Findlay Stone and Gabriel Stone. Also survived by sister-in- law Joann LeBlanc (Hubert LeBlanc deceased), brother-in-law Peter Dysart (Alberta Dysart) and several nieces and nephews.
Dave was predeceased by his parents, Mona and Dr. Alex Chisholm, Cathy’s parents, Catherine and Allison Dysart, his only sister Patricia Smith and brother in-law Gabriel Smith.
We owe a debt of gratitude to the staff and Dave`s other family, fellow residents at Pro Tem, who took such good care of him and provided him with so much love and attention.
Cremation has taken place as Dave requested. Funeral services to be held at Passage Funeral Cooperative, 3754 Route 134, Shediac Bridge, (532-1050) on Monday Nov. 28th at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow.
