Ian Grant Forbes, Sr. – 85, Hilden, passed away
peacefully on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at Colchester East Hants Health
Centre, Truro. Born in Hopewell, Pictou County, he was a son of the
late Lawson and Bertha (Fraser) Forbes.
Ian was a “jack of all trades” and could fix most
anything. He worked at Glasgow Mercury before moving to the Parts
Department at Briarwood Ford (later renamed Concept Ford) and finished
his career at Nova Enterprises. He enjoyed music, puzzles and his
daily papers. He was involved in his children’s lives and
enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities. Along with
his wife, Shirley, he was a foster parent to a number of children and
was President of the Foster Parent Association of Colchester County
for many years. He was a Toronto Maple Leafs fan and there were many
interesting nights when his Leafs were playing Shirley’s
Canadiens!
Ian is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Shirley
(Cameron); daughter, Susan (Aaron) Tooker, Camden; sons, David
(Tammie) Rice, Hilden; John Brimicombe, Stewiacke; Craig (Melanie)
Boyd, New Glasgow; Donald Richards, Oxford; Peter Forbes, Moncton, New
Brunswick; grandchildren, Ashley Brimicombe, Madison (Mitchell) Faber,
Branden Rice, Lucas Brimicombe, Rachel Tooker, Alyssa Rice, Bridgit
Tooker, Shelby Tooker; great grandson, Malachi Faber; sister, Joy
(Lloyd) MacDonald; sisters-in-law, Jo Forbes, Peggy Forbes;
Shirley’s siblings, Hugh, Louis (Anne), Francis (Dorothy),
Arlene Lambert, Janice (Kendrick) Fraser, Louanne (Robert) Roddick,
Lourene Cameron, Gaye (Robert) Smith, Sharon (Charles) Benoit; his
beloved fur babies, Oscar and Bella.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Ian
Grant Forbes, Jr.; brothers, Floyd, Bill, Alan; sisters, Jeanne Gale,
Lois Ward, Kathleen Flemming, Lorna in infancy; brother-in-law, Erving
Cameron.
Special thanks are extended to the Intensive Care Unit staff
at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, second floor E Wing nurses and
Dr. Gadir and Dr. Booth for their care of Ian.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Ian’s
family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Saturday, April 23, 2022,
and funeral service 2 p.m., Sunday, April 24, 2022, Reverend Andrew
Campbell officiating. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in
Ian’s memory to Colchester SPCA or Canadian Cancer Society
