Hughie Alexander Dorton passed away November 20, 2022 in Halifax at the QE2 Hospital.
Hughie Alexander was born April 7, 1954 on a cold and windy night in Port Hawkesbury, NS. He was a home birth and was delivered by his Grandmother, Nama (Stella) for his parents Dan R and Pearl Dorton.
Hughie was married to his wife, partner in crime, his ol woman, Yvonne (Arsenault) Dorton for over 43 years. Over the years they had lots of fun together, while putting together quite the crew. First came little Hughie (Jaye) and not long after came Vincent (Robin). After a few years came and gone, came their final pieces of the wall of fame: Ronald (Jenn) and Robert; both in the same year.
Later in life came Hughie’s pride and joy: his grandchildren, Carson, Hunter, Brooke and Austin; His two godchildren Colleen Dorton and Vicky Dorton (Cook) and many nieces and nephews that he all loved.
Survived by members of the original Dorton Clan, Brothers: Danny, Donald, John and Paul; Sisters: Diane and Estelle.
Hughie was predeceased by his parents, Dan R. and Pearl Dorton; Brother Jim (James) Dorton and Grandparents, Hugh J and Stella Dorton; Daniel and Margaret (Rawden) MacInnis.
Hughie D’s wishes are simple: Enjoy life and don’t cry over him; Treat the kids right, they grow up and remember; and always take a kid fishing when you can.
The family would like to thank all the NS health care from Cheticamp to Halifax and in between – You all had a helping hand keeping the ol man going throughout the years. This is something we truly appreciated.
Cremation has taken place and a Graveside Service will be held at a later date. Donations in memory of Hughie may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
