Peacefully on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at Afton Park Place, Hubertus “Bert” Hoogendam was called to his heavenly home by his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ at the age of 87. Beloved husband of the late Frances Hoogendam for 54 years. Loving father of Bernie (the late Jennifer) Hoogendam, Karen (Dan) DeYoung, Sue Clark, and Bob (Tracy) Hoogendam. Cherished grandfather of Devin, Caitlyn, Amanda, Rachel, Sarah, Diana, Ethan, Willem, Caleb, Leah and Adriana. Dear brother of Hillie (Bert) VanZeumeren, the late Huib (Teunie) Hoogendam, and Joop Hoogendam, and brother-in-law of the late Harry (Helen) Verdun, John (Cheryl) Verdun, Marina Verdun, and Peter (Betty) Verdun. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Bernardus and Adriana Hoogendam. Bert was a devout member of First Christian Reformed Church since 1950. He was an active member of Sarnia Rotary for over 30 years, and was also very involved in his Men’s Choir for many years. Bert retired from his career as an Insurance Broker after successfully managing his own office since 1972. Family and friends will be received at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Friday, June 3, 2022, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at First Christian Reformed Church, 1105 Exmouth St., Sarnia, on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. A private family burial will follow at a later time. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to Sarnia Christian School (cheques only at the funeral home please).
