It is with great sadness and
heartbreak that we announce the passing of Hubert O’Brien
from Memramcook (Dover), New Brunswick. Hugh passed away
peacefully in his home on April 4, 2022. He was born in
Richibucto, to George and Josephine O’Brien. He
was the twelfth of seventeen children. Since he was thirteen
years old, Hugh loved working with his hands. He left New
Brunswick when he was just sixteen years old and moved to Ontario,
learning various trades along the way. His hard-working
ability landed him many opportunities that would open the doors to his
future. Hugh started O’Brien Installations Ltd.
in Ontario in 1963 and O’Brien Material Handling
in the Maritimes in 1986.
Hugh loved spending time in the great
outdoors with his family and friends, hunting, fishing and
golfing. Hugh was a legendary storyteller and was always
willing to share his experiences with others, if he knew they could
learn something from it. One of his greatest pleasures was
playing guitar and singing with his wife, family and
friends.
Hugh is survived by his loving wife
Shelagh; and 3 children – Susanne O’Brien, Glen
O’Brien (Susan) and Brianne D’Souza (Claude),
along with his 7 grandchildren – Sara, Brittany, Tyler,
Dylan, Zachery, Jackson and Layla. Hugh was also a brother
to Beatrice, Raymond, Jeanette, Doris, George and Alice; an uncle to
many, a leader, a mentor and phenomenal businessman who will be dearly
missed by all.
In addition to his parents, he was
predeceased by his siblings, Laura, Edward, Mai, Henry, Tim, Leonard,
Anthony, Alma, Marie in infancy and Alice.
In lieu of flowers, the
O’Brien family requests that donations be made to the
Alzheimer Society. The family would also like to express
their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and entire team at ProTem for
their excellent care and compassion.
Visitation and condolences will be
held at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995)
this Saturday, April 9th from 1:00 to 3:00 and
7:00 to 9:00 pm. The family has requested that all those in attendance
please wear a mask. A Celebration of Hugh’s life will be
held in the summer of 2022 with a date to be determined at the family
homestead.
Online condolences for the family may
