Obituary for
Horace Charlton Crowe
Crowe, Horace Charlton – May 8, 1952 – September 4, 2022, a lifelong Toronto Maple Leafs fan, hailed from Onslow Mountain, NS. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary (Matthews); his children, Roger (Taunya) and Teresa (Doug); his 4 grandchildren, Isaac, Amelia, Seth, and Jenna; his sister, Frances (Paul); and many nieces and nephews.
Horace, Dad, Grampie had a fond love for all sports and watched many games either as a coach or as a “coach” on the sidelines for both his children and grandchildren. He also was a skilled statistician and announcer for all MLB and NHL games on TV, it was always fun to watch a game with him.
Horace worked as a heavy-duty mechanic for Moffat Bros. and a mechanic/truck driver for CP Express & Transport, where he won a national Professional Driving award. After the dissolving of CP Express (Interlink), he became a partner with MBW Courier Inc. until his retirement in 2011.
Besides the love of his family, he had a gift and love for music. He was able to play any string instrument, piano, and he had a gift of feeling the music with his hands. He enjoyed many years of singing with family and friends and the social aspect of how music brought people together.
Horace enjoyed wintering in Florida with Mary meeting new people and playing music. In the summer Bluegrass Festivals were the highlights and they travelled with their fifth wheel camper to attend the shows.
For those closest to Horace, he will be most remembered for his infectious laugh, his great sense of humour, his love of teasing, and his storytelling. Horace always took the high road because the view is better up there.
Donations in Horace’s memory may be made to Colchester East Hants Health Centre or the Kidney Foundation (Primary Biliary Cholangitis).
A Visitation will be held on Friday, September 9th from 6-8pm with a Funeral service to be held on Saturday, September 10th at 2pm, both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, NS with Eileen Corah officiating.
