HOFFMAN, Edward John
June 22, 1937 — February 27, 2022
With great heartache, we announce the passing of Edward John Hoffman at the age of 84. He is survived by Rose, his loving wife of 60 years; daughters Teri (David) Christopher and Jacki (Greg) Zehner; and grandchildren Sean (fiancée Vladana) and Megan Christopher, Matthew and Allie Zehner. Ed was one of 9 children and is survived by two younger siblings, Lionel Hoffman and Lee Chapman and numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Melville, Saskatchewan, Ed moved to Kelowna with his family in 1948. He enjoyed playing fastball, hockey and golf and made lifelong friends. The tv was always on a sports channel full blast, and he loved nothing more than to talk to his sons-in-law and grandchildren about scores and bonehead plays. He managed Coopers supermarket, Rutland, before founding 4-Way Food Market which he operated for many years. He then became a realtor. In “retirement”, he found his life’s calling as an orchardist. Over the course of 23 years, he transformed the 32-acre Glenmore property into one of the most beautiful, park-like orchards, growing cherries, peaches, apples and pears. Passersby were likely to see Ed making his rounds on his John Deere gator. Many fun times were had with the Tim Hortons gang.
A Memorial Service will be held on FRIDAY, MARCH 4, 2022, AT 1:00 PM (PST), AT SPRINGFIELD FUNERAL HOME, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC, with a reception to follow. The service will be Livestreamed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
Sincere thanks to Michele and the many other hardworking nurses on 3West at Kelowna General Hospital, where Ed spent the last few days of his life after an extended hospital stay. He passed knowing he was deeply loved and valued, with his beloved Rose and daughters at his side.
