Hilliard Blake Jones (Blake) moved on quietly in his sleep on April 5, 2022, at his home at the Diamond House long-term care facility. He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by all his family and friends.
Blake was born in Milden, SK, but moved north at an early age when his parents homesteaded in the Beaton / Paddockwood area. He married Stella Thompson on October 27, 1951. They farmed and raised their family at Beaton and retired to an acreage there. They moved to Shellbrook in 2005 to be closer to medical facilities and the convenience of town amenities. In 2020 they moved to an assisted Care Home in Prince Albert, but upon the loss of his wife Stella in October 2020, Blake moved to Diamond House in Warman.
Blake and Stella’s farm evolved from mixed farming to dairy farming in the later years. Blake took outside work occasionally to supplement the mixed farming income. He spent several years cutting pulpwood, operating heavy equipment, driving dump trucks, and occasionally working for other farmers. After retiring from farming Blake and Stella became very active in the church and community projects in 2001, they were named Christopher Lake Citizens of the Year.
Coming from a very musical family, Blake, upon retirement, was able to pursue his love of music. He sang in the church choir and later joined other members of the church to form “The Christopher Lake Travellers”. Their band played all over the area and traveled as far as Saskatoon entertaining seniors in the retirement homes and dances. Blake and Stella enjoyed dancing and were known for their old-fashioned polka. They even took first prize in a competition in Prince Albert.
Blake was predeceased by his wife Stella, his parents, his 3 sisters, and one brother.
He is survived by his four children, Edwin Jones (Debbie), Yvonne McArthur (Donald), Marvin Jones (Joanne), Melvin Jones (Sandra), 12 grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren, his brother Jim Jones, brother-in-law Keith Thompson, sister-in-law Edith Thompson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Blake was always a gentleman and a kind, loving, generous person. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
His family would like to thank the supportive communities of Christopher Lake, Beaton, Paddockwood, and Shellbrook for their years of support, kindness, and the friendly, attentive staff at Diamond House in Warman, Saskatchewan for their excellent and dedicated care.
A service will be announced at a later date. Condolences can be sent to the family on our website at www.mackenziechapel.ca. Arrangements in care of MacKenzie Chapel & Crematorium. Brian & Bev Stobbs, Mark Gyoerick – Matayah Loyst – Mel Curle. 306.763.8488.
