Hildegard Maria Sombrutski

Hildegard Sombrutski passed away suddenly and peacefully at Hogarth Riverview Manor in Thunder Bay
on July 12, 2022. She was predeceased by her husband Anton(Tony) in 2004 and grandson Paul in 2020.
Hildegard moved to Thunder Bay from Kenora in 2008. For much of her life she lived near Dryden,
Ontario in Wainwright Township. In addition to farming and gardening, she enjoyed working as a
hairdresser in her own small salon. She enjoyed country living and nature which she relied upon for
herbal remedies to address ailments. She and her husband particularly enjoyed socializing with their
many friends. Hildegard was a long-time member of the Eastern Star in which she participated whole
heartedly, holding various chairs including Matron. Following their retirement, Hildegard and Tony
enjoyed wintering in Florida for many years.
Hildegard is survived by her sister Magda, who resides in South Carolina, sons, Bert and Fred(Linda),
grandchildren Christine(Dan) Gelevan, Matt (Ania) Sombrutski, Tessa (Jamie) Casella, and great
grandchildren Sarah and Rebecca, Ollie and Ela, Myla, and Connor.
A special thank you to the staff at Hogarth Riverview Manor for the exceptional care they provided for
Hildegard.
Interment will be in Dryden, Ontario at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
