Obituary
Herbert Arthur Wright was born in Miniota, Manitoba in 1929. While it wasn’t easy growing up in the ‘dirty’ 30’s on the prairies, this did little to deter him; Herb nurtured a cheerful disposition, brought a laugh with him wherever he went, and he truly understood what ‘joie de vie’ meant. This was very apparent to Mable Ramsey, who found his approach exciting and Herb attractive, and they were married in 1952 with children Barbara Jean (Alfred McAlister) and Barry (Mary Chouinard) rounding out the family.
A big moment in the Wright family’s life came with a move to Red Deer in 1959 for a work opportunity and the ensuing life-long friendship with Dalt and Shirley Skinner. New opportunities took Herb and Mable to Edmonton in the 1980s and finally to Kelowna where they happily retired. They both loved playing the role of Granma and Grampa to Kaley, Chad (Megan), Monica, Kathleen, and John Emmett and everyone else’s children too including Rosalyn, Chase, Christal, and Marlies.
Wherever Herb and Mable went, warm friendships followed. Sadly, his dear Mable passed away in 2008.
Herb lived a long full life, surrounded by love and laughter that he freely gave and brought forth from all whom he met. He will be missed.
We thank the many dear friends who looked after him in his later years and together we celebrate his life and know that we will meet again some sunny day.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
A celebration of Herb’s life will be held at the Oak River United Church, Oak River, MB on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 10:00am with interment following in the Hamiota Cemetery.
