Henry John Townsend, born on October 17, 1952, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2022.
Henry, known affectionately as Harry to those who knew and loved him best, was greatly admired for his scholastic intelligence along with his knowledge of a broad spectrum of topics. Harry excelled in academics from his very early school days and high school through to university, graduating from St. Francis Xavier University with a Diploma in Engineering and later Technical University of Nova Scotia (TUNS) with a Bachelor of Engineering, BEng, discipline Electrical.
Harry had a tremendous talent for creating custom wood furniture. His craftsmanship was impeccable with superior attention to detail. He spent a great deal of time throughout his life creating these classic wooden treasures with both care and precision. Harry’s handcrafted pieces will be a lasting legacy. Equal to his love of woodworking was his great passion for and astute appreciation of classical music. His classical music collection was dear to him serving as a source of entertainment and great comfort which lasted a lifetime. Harry was kind, friendly, a good conversationalist and could be quite witty with a keen sense of humour. He was very loyal to his family and loved them deeply without reservation.
Harry is survived by his sisters Mary (Molly) Townsend, Stellarton and Charlotte Dickson, Abercrombie; Niece Christine Dickson, Abercrombie; Nephew Clark (Jo Anne) Dickson, New Glasgow; as well as great-nephew Carter Dickson and great-niece Ava Dickson. He will always be remembered lovingly by each.
Harry was predeceased by his parents Clyde and Mabel Townsend; a very dear aunt, Ida Beatrice Clark (Aunt Bea); and his brother-in-law Clint Dickson.
Under the arrangement of H.W. Angus Funeral Homes cremation has taken place. A memorial service for Harry will be held in the Chapel at H.W. Angus Funeral Homes, King Street, New Glasgow, on Saturday January 7, 2023 at 1:30 pm for anyone who would like to attend. ¬¬
A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be to be made to Hope For Mental Health formerly The Schizophrenia Society Nova Scotia www.hope4mentalhealth.ca/ or a charity of your choice.
