Henry (Heinrich) Kobald of Fonthill, Ontario, Canada (formally from Dundas, Ontario, Canada) died on March 9, 2022, after a long, 10-year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Henry fought the disease valiantly until the very end.
In 1934, Henry was born in Tirol, Austria to Veronika and Joseph Kobald, and had 11 siblings. There, Henry spent many summers in the Tirolian mountains as a shepherd. In 1949, when Henry was 16, he moved to Switzerland. In 1956, when Henry was 22, he moved across the Atlantic Ocean to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He first lived with his sister, Hilde, her husband Walter and their two kids. It was in in Hamilton at the Germania Club where he met the love of his life, Phyllis Varity. They married in 1958 and had two children, Gary and Jeanette.
In 1958, Henry and Phyllis built their first house in Dundas, Ontario, Canada. Henry then started his own construction company, Kobald Construction, which eventually became Kobald and Son Construction. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Henry worked for Altera Construction and moved to Fonthill where he and Phyllis eventually retired. In the early 2000s, Henry and Phyllis also purchased a home in Trenton, Illinois, USA, to spend more time with their daughter and her family.
Throughout the years, Henry enjoyed spending time outdoors, working, traveling, watching Hamilton Tiger Cats football, skiing with his family, moose hunting with his son, hiking with his daughter, and golfing with his wife.
Henry will always be remembered as a hard-working, easy-going man with a great love for work, the outdoors, and his family.
Surviving Henry are his wife, Phyllis; two children, Gary (wife Sue, ex-wife and family friend Sandra) and Jeanette (husband Bobby); grandchildren, Jacob (wife Natasha), Thomas, Adam, and Rachel (special friend Nate), Jessica; great grandchildren, Liam, Aden, Ashton, Avery, Parker, Nolan and Nash and brother-in-law, Walter Haefele.
Pursuant to Henry’s wishes, he was cremated. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, March 15th at Pelham Funeral Home, 1292 Pelham St. Fonthill, Ontario, between 7:00 – 9:00 pm. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 15th at 11:00 am.
