Helen Joyce Cousins
1946-2022
Helen Joyce (Kozlowski) Cousins – age 76, of
White Rock, Kings County, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2022 in the
Valley Hospice, Kentville with the caring staff and her loving family
by her side. Born on March 27, 1946, Helen was the adopted daughter of
the late Jan and Elsie Leona (Chetwynd) Kozlowski and the biological
daughter of the late W. Kinsman Benjamin and Florence Gertrude
(Spinney) Benjamin.
Spunky until the end, Helen’s humour
and feisty personality were much larger than her diminutive stature.
She enjoyed swapping stories with her many friends, researching family
history and summer days watching her beloved Toronto Blue Jays. Helen
was a lifelong supporter of the Canaan Community Center and the Third
Horton Baptist Church (Canaan) where she helped organize their annual
teas well into her twilight years. She will be missed by her family
and the dozens of friends that she spoke with
daily.
Helen was predeceased by her husband, Roy; both
of her adopted and biological parents, as well as biological siblings,
Gladys Miller, Marie Patterson and Maxine
Swinamer.
Helen is survived by her children, R. Allen
(Tammy), Kimberley Stewart (Scott), Terri Arsenault (Bill) and James
(Nicole); grandchildren, Makayla, Jon and Andrew Cousins, Jessica and
Alex Stewart; in addition to several great grandchildren; as well as
brother, Richard (Elizabeth) Kozlowski; sister, Darlene (Darren)
Whalen; biological siblings, Ray (Barb) Benjamin, Wayne Benjamin,
Clarence (Wendy) Benjamin, Leroy (Lois) Benjamin and Pat
Gammon.
The family would like to thank the many health
care professionals who worked so hard to keep Helen comfortable. In
particular, the family would like to thank the caring staff at the
Valley Hospice who showered Helen with kindness and indulged her
frequent requests to hear them sing her favorite hymn
“I’ll Fly
Away.”
It was Helen’s wish to rest beside
her husband, Roy at the Black River Cemetery, where her favorite tree
frog will surely be waiting to greet her. A Celebration of
Helen’s Life will be held at the White Rock Community Hall
on Friday, April 15, 2022 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers,
donations in memory of Helen may be made to the Valley Hospice or the
Third Horton Baptist Church, Canaan. Funeral arrangements have been
entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services,
