Helen entered sunrise in the world on April 28, 1931, and entered into eternal sunset on January 24, 2022.
It is with heavy hearts an great sadness we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, friend.
Helen is predeceased by an infant daughter Sandra; a son Dennis Louis; her two oldest daughters Bernice an Cynthia; her grandson Dennis Ray, Jesse and her husband Eddy “Doc” Cobiness.
She is survived by 7 children. Two daughters Lanita Judy an Rose Edith; son’s Dwayne (Tammy), Eddy Jr, Ernest, Elmer (Bonnie), and Elliot; her special grandchildren that she raised Jermey, Rosie, and Pete. All 31 grandchildren, and numerous great, great great grandchildren.
Helen was born and raised in Roseau River First Nation before marrying her husband and residing in Buffalo Point First Nation where her husband built the family home. Helen was funny, sassy and strong a woman. She danced jiggle and traditional and attend pow wows far and near throughout her life. Helen was a well known Elder in her community. Our family will miss her immensely, we will miss seeing her sitting at her kitchen table in the family home every morning with her cup of tea playing cards. There is comfort knowing you are having a joyous reunion with your husband and loved ones. She will be forever loved an missed, an long remembered. We love you Mom, thank you for life.
Traditional services will be held in Roseau River First Nation at Charlie Nelson Lodge on Wednesday and Thursday beginning at 7pm. Traditional services will be held in Buffalo Point First Nation at Ogichidaa Lodge, on Friday and Saturday beginning upon arrival with a Traditional burial at noon on Sunday. Lawrence Henry and Mary Crate Officiating.
