Obituary
Heinz Gunter Ilaender
(1928-2021)
‘Golfing with the Angels’
Heinz crossed over while sitting in his favourite spot on the couch on December 24th, 2021.
He predeceased his wife of 25 years, Evelyn. He leaves behind his three sons, Jurgen, Mike and Andrew, their wives, Janina, Cyrstal and Trisha, and their children, Alisha, Mikie and Felicia, Seann, Sydney, Zachary, and great-grandchildren Ryder and Eva. He outlived his first two wives, Helga and Kathy, who died way too young.
On Eveline’s side he leaves behind her three children, Judith, Yvonne and Thomas. The husbands Stephen and Raymond, grandchildren: Jennifer, Chylo and Allessandra, also, Kevin, Niko and Anthony.
He also leaves behind his two nieces in Germany and their families: Gisela, Julia, Daniel, Renate and Gert. Plus, other distant family members in Germany.
He outlived many of his ‘golf buddies’; yet, still leaves behind many other friends in Canada.
Born in Essen-Borbeck, Germany in 1928, Heinz came to Canada in 1955. He helped build the pipe mill in Port Moody where he worked for 35 years. He retired at age 60 and then went each day to his ‘new office’ – the golf course – where he was a member for nearly 40 years. He was an excellent golfer! Most people dream of getting a hole-in-one during their lifetimes. Heinz got 3 hole-in-ones- with plaques in his name still hanging on the walls of the Meadow Ridge Golf course.
Heinz cared deeply about his family. Christmas was always such a special time for all family members to gather. It is fitting that he passed over on Christmas Eve with family members there to say goodbye. He and Evelyn were especially close these past few years.
He enjoyed watching sports, especially hockey, both on TV and live on Friday nights when he went to watch his son’s junior team, the Ridge Meadows flames, play their games. He also had a passion for soccer, both local and international. He followed the German soccer league and was thrilled to watch Germany win the world cup last time in Brazil.
His sparkling sense of humor will be missed. He was a gentle, kind, loving man who always made everyone in the room feel comfortable and cared for.
We all love you! We are all blessed in so many ways to have had you in our lives! Thank you!
May you get many more hole-in-ones in that heavenly golf course in the sky!
