Peacefully Harry passed away at Deer Lodge Centre at the age of 93 years.
He was predeceased by his parents, William and Katie, siblings Gania, Joseph, Elsie, Genevieve, Eddie, Peter and Anthony (in infancy) and Bill Heather with whom he had a special lifelong relationship.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 62 years, Margaret (nee Graham), and his children Marilyn (Guy), Karen, Janice (Ed), Sandra (Mark), Barry (Larissa) , his grandchildren Mackenzie, Jessyqua, Kyle, Clayton, Jelyssa, Nik, Andrue, Quintin and Logan and the Heather Family as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Harry was born in Poplarfield, MB. In 1941, after his parents had both passed, young Harry went to the Prairie Grove area to live with his maternal Uncle Mike and Aunt Tina Stecki. In 1944 Harry went to work at the neighbouring farm of Rhoda and Leslie Heather and became part of their family. He stayed there until he and Margaret married in 1960 and started their own home and life together.
Harry worked at the Union Stockyards starting in 1952 as a labourer cleaning boxcars etc. and rose to the position of foreman by the time it closed. He then worked at the newly opened Winnipeg Livestock Sales until his retirement in 1996.
During his working life and into his retirement Harry also worked for various farmers seeding, haying, harvesting and looking after livestock. He often drove a tractor thru the night and into the morning to get a field seeded or worked.
Holidays were to visit family and see the sights in Ontario and Western Canada, especially the Okanagan where his brother had an orchard.
Harry loved lively fiddle music, wrestling and hockey on TV, attending any kind of auction especially if food was involved, travel and visiting. He was a reader and was always well informed and had an amazing memory. He was a great resource for local history which was especially appreciated and helpful when the Prairie Grove history book was being compiled.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at 10:30am at Seasons Funeral Chapel 576 Balsam Crescent in OakBank. Those that wish to join the service via livestream can do so by clicking on the photos and videos tab.
