French, Richard Henry (April 2, 1923 – June 21, 2022)
We are sad to announce the passing of Richard Henry (Harry) French on Tuesday, June 21, 2022.
Harry was the beloved husband of Elizabeth Anne French who passed away just recently on May 26, 2022.
Loving stepfather of Bill Woodland, Betty Ruth Woodland (Tom Lovatt), and Stephen Woodland (Helena). Cherished grandpa of Melanie Neal (TJ), Nathan Woodland (Samantha Gow) and the late Jeremy Woodland (Dawne). Great grandpa of Joe, Elliot, Charlie and Myles. Harry is predeceased by his parents Bert and Jane French, and his sister Marjorie.
Harry grew up on the farm on the 2nd Line of Mono, where his roots ran deep. He loved farming, his cows, his tractors, his vegetable garden, his dogs, his rural life, and was a voracious reader. Harry was a member of the Masons, the Rotary Club of Orangeville, and faithfully attended St. Johns Anglican Church, where he looked after the property for many years.
He married Betty as a bachelor in 1973, and they enjoyed many wonderful years together. He did a lot of the work on building their own house, and also travelled the world in between haying and winter chores.
His patience, kindness, and community spirit made him a treasure to all who knew him.
Visitation will be held at the Dods & McNair Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Centre, 21 First St., Orangeville on Thursday, June 30th, 2022 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Funeral Service will be held in the chapel on Thursday, June 30th, 2022 at 11:00 am. Memorial donations to Headwaters Health Care Foundation or would be appreciated by the family.
A tree will be planted in memory of Harry in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville. 20th Annual Dedication Service will be held on Sunday, September 11, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.
