Dort, Harold Malcolm – With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Harold Malcolm Dort, age 85 on September 14, 2022 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro surrounded by his loving family.
Harold was born in Torbay, Guysborough County and lived most of his life in Wyses Corner with his loving wife of 61 years. He was a son of the late Daisy (Cole) Snyder and step-father, William Snyder, and raised by his grandparents, Henry and Violet Gammon, New Harbour.
Harold worked at National Gypsum for ten years at which time he went into dairy farming from which he retired after 20 years due to health issues. He most recently became famous for his pickles and jams which he and his wife prepared with love for all to enjoy.
Harold was a true family man and worshipped his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved fishing and hunting with them and taught them everything he knew and passed on his passion for it to most of his family. He shot his last deer with his grandson, Peter.
Harold will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Nina (Moore) Dort; daughter, Violet Brown (Larry), Antrim; son, Harold Jr. (Charlene), Antrim; grandchildren, Dawn Isenor (Craig), Marie Brown (Ryan Dearman), Vernon Brown (Stephanie), Brian Dort (Sam), Sara Leighton (Jimmy), Quinton, Keira Dort; great-grandchildren, Peter Kays, Peyton Dearman, Reese and Rowan Isenor, Landon and Leland Dort, Ethan and Cooper Leighton; step great-grandchildren, Robyn, Beca, Andrew, Abby, Marcus, Aden, Marley and Kita; sister, Ida Zinc (Ken); brothers, Eddy (Sandra), Anthony (Sue), Simmon Snyder; brothers-in-law, Henry Moore (June), Edgar Moore (Linda); sisters-in-law, Margaret Pelrine, Reta Pickles, Clara Campbell; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
He is predeceased by special aunt (sister), Blanch; sister, Margaret; brother, Albert; brothers-in-law, Robert, George, Richard and Ronald Moore, Kimmer Pelrine, Ronald Campbell, Stan Pickles; sisters-in-law, Jean and Dorothy Moore; nephews, Michael and Kevin Pickles and Sheldon Ashley.
Special thanks to the staff at the hospital staff for their efforts and kindness shown to Harold and the family. Special thanks to nurse Bonnie for her compassion shown to us during our sadness.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday 1 – 1:45 p.m. followed by funeral at 2 p.m., all in St. Paul’s United Church, Antrim with Rev. Allan Lynk officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul’s United Church.
