Harold Carleton Lewis 1932 2022

Harold Carleton Lewis – 89, Truro, formerly of
Glenholme, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on
Saturday morning, January 8, 2022, at The Mira Long Term Care Centre,
Truro. Born in Five Islands, he was a son of the late Millard and
Freda (Eagles) Lewis.
Harold and Lorna moved to Glenholme in 1960 and opened the
Irving Garage and Cozy Corner Truck Stop and Restaurant. After
successfully operating that for 28 years with Lorna, he opened Harold
Lewis Auto Repairs and Towing. Many will remember being towed out by
Harold, and some will also remember (and be grateful for) his
discretion in not involving the authorities! He loved to dance, and he
and Lorna would travel anywhere in Nova Scotia to attend a good
dance.
Harold was the last surviving member of his immediate family
and is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Lorna (Simpson);
children, Derald Lewis, Debert; Heather (Tony) Ward, Debert; Donald
“Donnie” Lewis, Lac La Biche, Alberta; Mary Lindsay (Dana
White), Hammonds Plains; grandchildren, Tyler Lewis, Ashley Lewis,
Jennifer Lewis, Angela Ward (Dylan Ellis), Monica Ward (Drew
Hennigar); sister-in-law, Eileen Lewis, Moncton, New Brunswick;
several nieces and nephews; extended family, Helen Dunphy,
Onslow.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his twin
brother, Derald in infancy; brothers, Austin Lewis, Addison Lewis;
sisters, Jean (Alex) Bedford, Ruth (Bernard) MacBurnie, Iva Lewis in
childhood; sister-in-law, Marjorie Lewis; extended family, Wayne
Dunphy.
Special thanks are extended to VON Homecare, especially Bev
and Frankie, whose help allowed us to keep Harold at home for as long
as possible. As well, we are grateful for the exceptional care
provided by the nurses and doctors at Colchester East Hants Health
Centre, Truro, and The Mira Long Term Care Centre, Truro, for taking
such great care of Harold and his family and making us all feel at
home. To the staff members that were working on Friday night, thank
you for going above and beyond.
Due to Covid-19, the funeral service will be held at a later
date at Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street,
Truro. Interment will be held at a later date in Folly Village
Cemetery, Glenholme. If so desired, donations in Harold’s
