Obituary
Harley Lockhart went to be with The Lord on February 10, 2022 after a brief battle with Covid.
The only son of Harley (Pop) and Amy Lockhart, Harley was born in Halifax Nova Scotia on July 1, 1947. Early years were spent in the towns of Brooklyn and Three Mile Plains, Nova Scotia. He grew up surrounded by a wonderful large extended family with many aunts, uncles and cousins. In 1958 his family moved to Zweibruken Germany for 4 years where his Dad served in the RCAF. The family returned to Greenwood NS where Harley finished high school. He was very active in sports and hockey was his passion.
Harley went to Acadia University in Wolfville NS and graduated with a degree in arts and education. He taught Junior High for a number of years and then went on to work for Scotiabank. He transferred with the bank to Calgary in 1980.
It was in 1981 that Harley went to a Billy Graham Crusade at McMahon Stadium. He always said that he went to see Johnny Cash but met Jesus Christ, and it changed his life. He met his wife Dale at church shortly after. They married in 1983 and moved to Vancouver. Dale and Harley started their family in 1984 with the birth of twins Maria and Matthew. Steve followed in 1985 and Jake completed the family in 1986. Harley and Dale moved the family to Kelowna in 1990. Harley was passionate about his family and spent years coaching hockey, baseball and basketball as the kids grew up.
Harley found his niche working in the financial services industry where he enjoyed serving his clients for over 30 years. He won the prestigious Leslie Dunstall Award in 1994 and, in 2013, he became National Chair of Advocis, his professional association.
After he retired, Harley decided it was time to work on his own personal level of fitness. So after decades of inactivity, at the age of 70, he joined the YMCA and became a volunteer TRX fitness instructor. He was an inspiration to many that even seniors can accomplish great things.
Throughout his life Harley was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and mentor to many. The last few years he applied his commitment and caring to the Kelowna Mission Thrift Store. He loved the people and was serving on the Board at the time of his death. He was also passionate about his church, Lake Country Alliance, and was actively serving there as well.
Harley was a man of faith. His love for The Lord and The Bible guided his actions and decisions. He had a great sense of humour and was always ready with an encouraging word for anyone he came in contact with, hoping that maybe he was able to brighten their day.
He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his loving wife Dale, children: Maria (Steve), Matthew (Adrienne), Steve (Rhiannon), Jake (Madison), six grandchildren with number
seven due shortly, and sisters Nancy (Gord) and Margaret Nowlan (Lou).
Celebration of Life service will be determined at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) cmhakelowna.com/
