Hanh Ly 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hahn Ly of Stratford on May 30, 2022 surrounded by family. Born November 11,1947 in Soc Trang, Vietnam, to father Danh Khem and mother lâm Thị phái.
Hahn came to Canada with her family in 1979 as part of the Vietnamese boat people refugees, sponsored by the kindness of the Community of Christ Church (formerly RLDS). Hahn worked hard to establish herself in Canada learning English, and attending the Stratford Chef School in the mid 80’s. She was an integral part of the Stratford restaurant community, working at storied restaurants such as the Queen’s Inn, Dominion House and Kent Hotel before starting Hahn’s Kitchen with Thanh Lieu, her husband of 50 years, and the support of the community. She was beloved by her patrons and all who had the privilege to know her and enjoy her food.
Hahn is survived by her husband Thanh, children Thuy, Tu (Xiu Eng), and Peter (Miranda) and her grandchildren Tyson Hinks, Katherine and Christine Lieu. She is predeceased by daughters My Linh and Linda Lieu and Canadian family member Ruth Smith. She also leaves a large family in Vietnam and dear friends from the church.
Hahn will be missed dearly and will be remembered for her bottomless joy, boisterous laughter and intense love for her family.
Visitation will take place at the Community of Christ, 226 Forman Avenue, Stratford on Friday, June 10, from 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the church on Saturday, June 11, at 2 p.m. Donations in Hanh’s memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or to the Community of Christ. 519.271.7411 www.wgyoungfuneralhome.com
