Halvor (Bud) Godfrey
1928 – 2022
It is with great sadness the family of Halvor (Bud) Godfrey, husband of the late Jean (Connell) Godfrey of Douglasfield announce his peaceful passing at his residence with his family by his side on Thursday evening, January 13, 2022 at the age of 93.
Born in Douglasfield on December 23, 1928, he was the son of the late Lemuel and Audrey (Astles) Godfrey. He was a man of great faith and an active member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church. He served Vestry, Cemetery Committee and Janitorial services as well as volunteering as needed. Most of his working years he enjoyed working as a truck driver and heavy equipment.
He was a man who loved the outdoors, hunting and spending time in the woods. Company with his family in Tabusintac was the highlight of his summers. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandkids and their little ones. His smile was biggest when he seen them and they brightened every one’s day. In his younger days he enjoyed playing baseball and always loved hockey, helping coach his sons and never missed a Toronto Maple Leafs game on TV. Friday nights was special to Bud because that meant it was a night for cards.
Bud is survived by two daughters: Shirley Manderson (Tate) and Peggy St. Coeur (Weldon) all of Miramichi; one son, Douglas Godfrey (Cindy) of Miramichi; one daughter-in-law, Lori Robb of Miramichi; 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, wife, Jean Godfrey, two sons: Allen and David Godfrey; granddaughter, Michelle Godfrey, great-grandson, Alexander St. Coeur; four sisters: Florence Harvey, Margie Walsh, Anne Doidge and Rena Wright.
Due to Covid restrictions there will be no visitation held. A funeral service will be held at a date and time to be announced. Interment in St. Paul’s Anglican Cemetery later in the spring.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to St. Paul’s Anglican Cemetery Fund, Extra Mural Program, or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
