It is with sadness and love that I announce the passing of Lawrence of Leduc on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at the age of 92 years. He is survived by his wife Lily (Stein) and 1 sister Kathleen Cartier; sisters-in-law Caroline and Melba Halladay; brothers-in-law Zoltan Liba and Vernon (Mildred) Stein; numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
He is predeceased by 2 children Ron (’79) Jacqui (’81); his mother and dad Arthur and Olive Halladay; 2 sisters Gladys Windsor (Suecroft) and Barbara Liba; 4 brothers John, Harold, Vernon, and Ralph.
In the spring of 1930, a young doctor set up a practice in the village of Thorsby. Lawrence was Doc Hankins first delivery in the area. It was said that Lawrence was born with a wrench in his hand. From an early age he was inquisitive as to what makes things tick. He got his mechanics license and made use of this knowledge through out his working years. He was self-employed for most of the time. He did get into a different line of work for a few years in the late 60’s as a salesman in the oilpatch selling to seismic companies. He travelled northern Alberta in the winter and Sask in the summer. There he also made use of his mechanical ability, able to fix a problem when he was out in remote areas. He took over a Ski-doo dealership in Mulhurst in the 70’s. He retired early and spent his time restoring vintage vehicles after that. He was a charter member of the EACC (60 yrs.).
A memorial service will be held at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Thorsby on July 7, 2022, at 1:00pm on occasion of our 67th wedding anniversary.
If friends desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Thorsby or to your local Food Bank.
