Gwendolyn Miriam Christie
1927-2022
Gwen M. Christie of Temperance Vale, NB passed away at Upper River
Valley Hospital on August 19, 2022. She was born on August 2, 1927 at
Central Waterville, York Co., NB, a daughter of the late James and
Willa (Stairs) Thornton.
She was a member of the P.C. Women’s Party and the Maple Ridge
Wesleyan Church. Gwen enjoyed quilting, cooking, gardening and sewing.
Her favourite pastime was spending time with her grandchildren and
great grandchildren, hugging the older ones and holding the younger
ones.
Gwen is survived by fourteen children, George Christie (Debbie), Roger
Christie (Jane), both of Waterville, NB, Chicoyne Christie (Doreen),
Hampton, NB, Ronald Christie (Beth), Southampton, NB, Matthew Christie
(Debbie), Waterville, NB, Andrew Christie (Chris), Medicine Hat, AB,
Brenda Hitchcock (Reg), Hampton, NB, Christine Gamblin (Terry), New
Maryland, NB, Daniel Christie, Meductic, NB, Vesta McIntosh (Brent),
Clarkville, NB, Ada Sharpe (Roy), Temperance Vale, NB, Marilyn
Peterson, Lower Queensbury, NB, Joel Christie (Adele), Nortondale, NB
and Julie Pickard (Arlis), Temperance Vale, NB; two sisters Deloris
Kaley, Temperance Vale, NB and Edith Lyons, Zealand, NB; two brothers,
Arden Thornton, Waterville, NB and Delmont Thornton, Burtts Corner,
NB; a brother-in-law Fred Christie (Alta), Waterville, NB; forty-six
grandchildren; sixty-nine great grandchildren; several nieces and
nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Austin Christie; a
daughter Barbara Wunsch (late John); a granddaughter Sabrina Christie;
a great granddaughter Saphira McIntosh; three sisters Noreen
MacLellan, Waneta Schriver and infant Jacqueline; five brothers
Gerald, Vernon, Alden, Zenas and infant Ronald Thornton.
Visiting hours will be held at Maple Ridge Wesleyan Church, 1125 Route
605, Maple Ridge, NB on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 pm. Funeral
service will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at 2 pm from the
church with Rev. Mike Agrell officiating. Interment at Temperance
Vale Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Tyrel Christie, Garth Christie, Anthony
Christie, Matthew Christie Jr., Darrel Hitchcock, Bryce McIntosh,
Austin Peterson and Levi Pickard.
