After a long, happy, and successful life, Geraldine slipped peacefully into the arms of her lord on December 20, 2022. Geraldine was predeceased by her husband Leonard, her daughter Diane Gurel, her parents Walter and Blanche McWilliams, her younger brother William Robert Goebel and his wife Joyce and her brother-in-law D. Clayton Quattlebaum.
Geraldine is survived by her younger sister Lois Quattlebaum, her sons David and Darren (Sherri), her grandchildren Gina Miles (Jeff) and Dallas (Gabby) and her great-grandchildren Evan Miles, Hannah Miles, Kade Gruel and Lily Gurel. Geraldine has two nieces and three nephews and their families as well. She is also survived by her “son” Norman Milgate of Calgary.
Geraldine worked for the provincial government in several different departments. She started in 1948 taking time off to raise a family until Darren was of school age and went back to work part-time to allow her to be home when the children came home from school. She started full-time once Diane and David were old enough to take care of Darren for lunch and after school. Geraldine retired in 1986.
Through their retirement, Len and Geri traveled, visiting many locations throughout Canada and the United States as well as taking many cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean. Geraldine spent time with her family throughout the USA. She spent the rest of the time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren spoiling them as much as possible.
Geraldine’s gift was that of caregiver which she took very seriously. She took care of her parents Walter and Blanch McWilliams who lived in Plainview Texas. She also took care of her parents’ best friends Helen and P.E. Dever who retired to San Angelo Texas. Through the years Geraldine took care of many other members of the family and close friends.
Geraldine was very active in every church she attended throughout her life, even when she moved to Good Samaritan Southgate care centre.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, December 27th, 2022, at Serenity Funeral Service, 5311 91st Street, Edmonton. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 am on Thursday, December 29th, 2022, at Laurier Heights Baptist church, 8505 142 St NW, Edmonton followed by burial at Northern Lights Cemetery.
