TAYLOR, Gregory Nevin – July 31, 1950 – August 20, 2022. Suddenly, on August 20, 2022, surrounded by love, Greg passed away due to a heart attack. Born in Barrie, Ontario on July 31, 1950, Greg was the eldest son of Ken and Helen (Lambert) Taylor. Greg is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Denise Fraser of Sudbury, whom he married in 2006, and his daughters Erin Robinson, her husband Jeff, granddaughters Grace, Emma and Ava, of Walton, Ontario, and Jodi Robertson, her husband Adrian, grandsons Eddie and Emmet of Prince George, BC, and Erin and Jodi’s mother, Sharon Cooper; Step-Children Mark Fraser, his wife Krista, grandchildren Chase, Avery, Angelo and Nico, Renee Hull, her husband Chris, grandchildren Samantha, Alyssa and Joseph, Jason Fraser, his partner Liette, grandchildren Emma, Abby and Keagan, and Jeni Koop, her husband Chris, grandson Hendrix, all of Sudbury; and brothers Gary, his wife Cathy Debassige and David, of Sudbury. In 1953, Ken and Helen moved their young family from Barrie to Sudbury to manage John Bazaar Jewellery. In 1962, the couple purchased the business, and the name was changed to Ken Taylor Jewellery. The business was purchased by their son Greg in 1977, who had become a certified Gemologist, and the Taylor name remained a fixture of downtown Sudbury in the decades since. Greg was a very proud Sudburian who, on top of being a well-known Gemologist, turned a passion for photography into a thriving business, photographing the scenes and landscapes that make Sudbury unique, selling those images locally and internationally. Along with decorating many Sudburians with the finest jewellery, Greg was tasked with photographically documenting landmarks such as the closing of the Sudbury General Hospital and the dumping of slag from the train itself. He loved all of the unique aspects of Sudbury, from the gritty mines to the stunning lakes that make our city special. First and foremost, Greg or GG (Grandpa Greg), as he was known to his grandchildren, loved his wife and family and was especially proud of his children and grandchildren, cheering on all accomplishments. Greg was an extremely well-read man, devouring books on all subjects. He was not often found without a book in hand…and a cup of tea and some sort of snack on the go, which we teased him about. The phone calls where he would discuss world events and dispense the best advice on business and relationships will be greatly missed by his daughter’s Erin and Jodi. It seems impossible to believe we will never hear “Hi, it’s Dad” again. Greg was an avid outdoorsman, loving nothing more than to be bobbing up and down on the waters of the Bad River or Georgian Bay with Denise, fishing pole in hand, reeling in pickerel. He loved spending time with Denise, enjoying all the things they were both passionate about. Greg was a true partner, father, and friend; he was a good man. A Celebration of Life will be held at the R.J. Barnard Chapel at the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch St., Sudbury on Thursday, August 25, 2022, at 6pm.
